Looking for a fun project for your creative 5th Graders?  If so, consider participating in this year’s National Bicycling Poster Contest.
The Georgia Safe Routes to School Resource Center is partnering with Saris Cycling Group (a US manufacturer of bicycle racks and cycling training products) to organize the 4th Annual Fifth Grade National Bicycling Poster Contest.  The contest is asking 5th grade students to create a poster around t
he famous John F. Kennedy quote, “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of a bike ride.”  The purpose of the contest is to promote youth riding bicycles as a way to lead a healthy lifestyle.

The Resource Center will help select one poster from all participating schools

in Georgia to be submitted for the national contest.  Posters are due March 7.  Here’s how it works:

  • Participating schools submit one poster to Georgia’s contest coordinator by March 7. Be sure to complete and use the Contest Permission Slip.
  • We'll post the top poster from each SOC region on the Resource Center Facebook page from March 18 - 21 for you to vote on your favorite poster.  there are two ways to vote:
    • "Like" the photo on our Facebook page -- photo album "2014 Saris Poster Contest:  Nothing Compares to the Simple Pleasure of Bike Riding"
    • Email us at and include your vote in the email's subject line.
  • Georgia SRTS Coordinator Emmanuella Myrthil will notify the winning school's SRTS champion on March 24
  • We'll enter the winning Georgia poster into the National contest.

One National winner will be selected from each participating state to receive a bike, bike light, and helmet. The National winner will be announced on the Saris website on April 17. The National winner will win a trip to the 2015 National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C. and their school will receive bicycle parking to park twenty bikes and a bike/walk tracking system called The Hub.

The full set of contest rules and and permission slip to attach to you entry are available for download. Use these materials to promote the contest at your school.
